THE MODERNIST 4 GATS CAFÉ | EL GOTICO
Justine the writer behind the blog Latitude 41 writes about the very prominent 1887 Café, Els 4 Gats which used to be a regular meeting point for Picasso and other artists. If you appreciate modernist architecture, paintings & food, all at the same time, then 4 Gats is considered a very special place.
In 1899, at age 17, Picasso started to frequent the place and carried out his first exhibition in the big room. Also he made the poster that was used as a title page of the menu of the house. Musicians like Isaac Albéniz and his friends Enric Granados and Lluís Millet also visited the 4 Gats, as well as architects like Gaudí and draughtsmen like Ricard Opisso.
For lunch, my first dish was a delicious warm creamy rice with octopus and clams. It exploded with flavor.
